Breastfeeding Education / Lactation Consultants / Breast Pumps
The NCHD WIC Program recognizes breastfeeding as the ideal nutrition for infants and children. The Healthy People 2010 goal is to improve breastfeeding rates to 75% of infants at hospital discharge. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first year and then for as long as mutually desired by mother and child.
Through breastfeeding promotion, education and support to health care providers, WIC staff and the community, the NCHD is working to achieve these goals. The NCHD WIC has an International Board Certified Consultant on staff.
