NCHD environmental health staff conduct inspections of restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores, temporary food stands, and commercial food processors. These establishments are inspected periodically throughout the year to determine compliance with the 1999 Missouri Food Code (for a copy click here) . Training is also provided to owners, managers, and food handlers. Staff also respond to such emergencies as drinking water boil orders , food product recalls , truck wrecks involving food, and fires in food establishments.
Child Day Care Facilities
Inspections of child day care centers and day care homes are conducted annually under contract with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. NCHD environmental health staff review such facilities for basic sanitation, food safety, fire safety, and other safety issues. Hotels & Motels
Inspections of hotels and motels are conducted annually under contract with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Swimming Pools
Public swimming pools, and hotel and motel swimming pools are inspected to ensure water quality standards, and basic safety measures are being maintained.
Tattoo Facilities
All tattoo facilities are inspected periodically by NCHD environmental health staff to ensure compliance with the NCHD tattoo ordinance for basic sanitation and safety requirements.
Training Classes
During the month of September, the Newton County Health Department will be offering food safety training classes targeting employees of restaurants and other foodservice establishments. Four classes have been scheduled: Tuesday, September 20 th at 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.; and Thursday September 22 nd at 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Classes will be held at the Newton County Health Department and will last approximately 2 hours.
