Welcome to the NCHD Environmental Department

Environmental Investigations and Surveys

Complaint Investigations

NCHD Environmental Health staff respond to a variety of complaints involving food establishments, on-site wastewater treatment systems, and other regulated and non-regulated facilities.

Food & Water-borne Disease Investigations

NCHD Environmental Health staff work in conjunction with Community Health Nursing staff to investigate and follow-up on all reports of food and water related illnesses.

Zoonotic Disease Surveillance & Investigations

NCHD environmental health staff are involved in the surveillance and investigation of such diseases as rabies, West Nile virus , and tick-borne diseases.

Environmental Lead Assessments

Environmental lead assessments are conducted when a child six years of age or younger is found to have an elevated blood lead level. Assessments are conducted by (EPA certified) NCHD staff to determine possible sources. Recommendations are then made on how to reduce exposure through remediation of identified sources of lead.
