The Newton County Health Department (NCHD) was established in 1948 by a vote of the citizens of Newton County . The NCHD is funded by a $.05 local tax levy, administrative user fees, permit fees, grants, contracts, and state & federal taxes. The NCHD is governed by a five member, elected Board of Trustees. The current staff of 15 employees provides services in the areas of Vital Records, WIC, Environmental Health, and Public Health Nursing.

MISSION: The Newton County Health Department is dedicated to protect and promote the health of the community through health promotion activities, disease prevention, provision of needed services, and protection of the environment through assessment, planning, education, leadership and partnership.

VISION: Newton County will be a community where people can attain their full health potential.
