WIC is...

  • A public health nutrition program working to improve the health and nutritional status of women and children.
  • An educational program focusing on maternal and child health issues.
  • Other services provided include:
    • Lead poisoning and anemia screenings.
    • Growth monitoring.
    • Breast feeding education and support.
    • Child passenger safety seats.
    • Administration of age-appropriate immunizations.
    • Voter registration.

WIC is not…

  • A welfare program.
  • Just a bag of groceries.

WIC provides many nutritional benefits that improve health outcomes, including a supplemental food package designed especially for each participant, nutritional education and counseling (including breastfeeding promotion and support), and referrals to other health care and public assistance agencies.

Who is eligible for WIC?

Women who are pregnant, breast feeding, or six months postpartum, and infants & children up to age five (5) who meet income, health, and nutrition guidelines. To find out if you are eligible for WIC stop by our office or call 451-3743.
